Exploration
There are two ways of getting new lands, aggressive and non aggressive. Exploration is non aggressive way of gaining new land for your kingdom. To explore new land you need to pay small amount of money for every 1 land you buy. You can explore up to 10% of your land at any time. The cost of the land depends on your current land size, the bigger you are the more expensive the land will cost. About aggressive way read under going to war section.
Buildings
If you have free land, you can build buildings on it. The buildings are split in two parts - the major buildings and bonus buildings. Bonus buildings can be build to gain some specific advantages, while major buildings are necessary for your survival.
Residence. To build military or scientist you need civilians or in other words - population. Every residence will provide house for additional 40 populations. But remember, even without residences your population will live on your lands, every land you have can house up to 15 populations. With residence build on it, land will house 15+40=55 population. Build residences only if you are short of population. Population also pay taxes to the kingdom, every civilian will pay 1.9 money.
Barracks. Every kingdom needs military, and then you build your space ships, they will demand additional space in barracks. Every barrack can hold up to 60 military units (advanced space ships will use 2x more space and will require two spaces in barracks instead of one). To make your life easier, in status window you will see indicator who will tell you how much hangars you need for your military. Then you send military to attack, at the time while they are away, they do not require space. If for some reason you are short on barracks, your military will start to remove population from they houses. Un-housed population will die quickly and if your population will reach zero, your kingdom will die.
Hangars. Hangars are upgraded version of barracks and can hold up to 85 military units instead of 60.
Air Bay. Its special buildings used to house special ships - Attack Carriers. You can read more about this military unit in military section of the guide.
Nuclear Power Plant. Every military unit, population and building use power. Nuclear Power Plant produces 100 power every hour and can store up to 500 unused power. Stored power can also be used to shield your probes (probes are used for spy and sabotage missions). It's possible you will build to less power plants and your kingdom will use more power than you can produce. In this case your attack and defense strength will decrease by 20%, population will grow much slower.
Fusion Power Plant. Fusion power plant is upgraded version of nuclear power plant and can produce 140 power per hour and store up to 1000 unused power.
Star Mines. Star mines produces 100 money per hour. Money is the most important resource in the game. You need money to train military, build buildings, explore land etc.
Probe Factory. Probe Factories build probes every hour. 10 Probe Factories can build from 10 to 5 probes every hour. For more info about probes see "Using probes".
